Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on June 7 announced that the Delhi borders sealed last week will reopen from June 8, 2020. Kejriwal said the borders were sealed thinking that Delhi hospitals will be flooded with people from other states. The week-long sealing announced on June 1, came a day after a spike in coronavirus cases in Haryana. A day before that, Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh had sealed its borders with Delhi, claiming a fresh surge of cases. Kejriwal said the move was meant to keep patients from the suburbs away from Delhi hospitals saying it was the suggestion of 90 per cent of the people of Delhi and an expert committee of five doctors. Kejriwal also announced that restaurants, malls and places of worship will reopen. However, hotels and banquet halls will continue to remain closed until further notice. The number of coronavirus patients in Delhi has been spiralling over the last week. Delhi registered a jump of more than a thousand patients each day. The number of cases in the national capital has reached 27654 with 761 deaths.
