Major Dhyan Chand, one of India’s greatest hockey players, was born on August 29, 1905. It’s the legendary sportsman’s 114th birth anniversary today. In India, Dhyan Chand’s birthday is celebrated as National Sports Day annually. Known for his extraordinary goal-scoring feats, he won three Olympic gold medals in 1928, 1932 and 1936 respectively. Known as The Wizard or The Magician of hockey for his superior ball control, the Government of India awarded Chand India's third highest civilian honour of Padma Bhushan in 1956.
