California Governor Issues
Overnight Stay-at-Home Order.
Governor Gavin Newsom has issued a new
stay-at-home order in California meant to
curb the spread of COVID-19.
Starting Saturday, non-essential work
and gatherings must stop between the
hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
This will apply in counties that
fall in the “purple tier,” which is an
area where widespread transmission
of COVID-19 is taking place. .
41 counties, or more than 90 percent of
Californians, are currently in the purple tier. .
The limited stay-at-home order will
stay in effect until December 21. .
In a statement to Deadline, Governor Newsom
said he was “sounding the alarm.” .
The virus is spreading at a pace we
haven’t seen since the start of this
pandemic and the next several days
and weeks will be critical to stop the

He also said the new stay-at-home order
was “crucial” to decrease transmission and
slow hospitalizations in the state. .
On Thursday, California county health departments
reported 13,208 new cases of COVID-19.
That marks the fourth consecutive day that
California has reported at least 10,000 new cases.
