The General Services Administration has informed President-elect Joe Biden that the Trump administration is ready to begin the formal transition process.
This is according to a letter from Administrator Emily Murphy sent Monday afternoon.
Tthe letter is the first step the administration has taken to acknowledge President Donald Trump's defeat, more than two weeks after Biden was declared the winner in the election.

A major breakthrough after several weeks of deadlock.
The U.S. General Services Administration, which is in charge of allocating resources and services during the transition of government, finally signed off on Joe Biden's victory on Monday,... after weeks of delay.
GSA head Emily Murphy sent a letter of ascertainment to Joe Biden to inform him that the GSA office is now ready to help with the transition and will free up millions of U.S. dollars in government funds to the Biden team.
The decision came shortly after Michigan formally certified its election results in favor of Biden.
The GSA had delayed this process for a few weeks,... which had even sparked talk of a lawsuit against the GSA from the Democrats in Congress.
But Murphy asserted in her letter that the delay was not fueled by fear or favoritism, contrary to accusations, and that her decision was based on the law and available facts.
In response, President Trump tweeted that he thanked Murphy for her steadfast dedication and loyalty to the country.
He added that he and his team needs to do what's necessary with regards to the initial protocols, but also insisted his legal fight continues and his team has a strong case.
Trump also asserted that he has no intention of conceding and that the GSA's move is only a preliminary measure.
