The renowned Mahatta Art studio was set up in a houseboat in Srinagar in 1915 and later opened many branches. Mohammad Sofi works at one such branch, at the studio on the shores of the Jhelum river. This place is a time capsule. Like a photographer preserves moments, the studio here preserves memories of the past, not only photographs but the instruments that were used to capture them.
