Ranjitsinh Disale from the Indian rural village of Paritewadi has won the Global Teacher Prize worth US$1 million, but he vowed to share the winnings with the other finalists.
Ranjitsinh has transformed the education of young girls at a primary school by redesigning textbooks in the local language and embedding QR codes for easier access to the learning materials.
Malaysia's Norhailmi Abdul Mutalib of SMK Jerlun in Kedah and Samuel Isaiah of SK Runchang in Pahang were among the 50 finalists in this year's competition.
