Always on the fringes of society, the transgender community in India has historically faced stigma and discrimination. Now a unique trans community art experimentation is helping them create a space to express themselves. The cis and trans women art collective called the Aravani Art Project captures the creativeness and resilience of the community. Their work spans many metropolitan cities of India like Bengaluru, Kolkata and Chennai where volunteers work to reclaim public spaces. From painting the local metro service Namma Metro in Bengaluru to reclaiming libraries for underprivileged children in Chennai, the project is infusing hope, one mural at a time.
