Hours after the Myanmar army took over power in the country on Monday (Feb 1), many residents of Yangon have made beelines at supermarkets and stores to hoard food essentials.
The army said the authority of the country’s lawmaking and governance had been handed over to the military chief in accordance with the constitution, in order to take action in response to allegations of fraud in the Nov 8 elections.
