The festival of Holi formally brings the curtains down on winter. It is the time when spring or 'vasant', as it is called in India, is at its best. Holi ushers in new life, colourful flowers and cheer. In India, Holi is the second biggest festival after Diwali and people of all states, belonging to all religions celebrate with great fervour. Gulal, gubbare, gujiya and pichkari are the things that make us all excited for Holi. But have you ever heard about holi being played with ashes?

काशी की होली की बात ही कुछ अलग है. यहां कई तरह की होली खेली जाती है. जिसे देखने के लिए देश ही नहीं, बल्कि विदेशों तक से लोग काशी घूमने आते हैं. इस साल होली का त्योहार 29 मार्च को मनाया जाएगा लेकिन धर्म की नगरी काशी में इसकी शुरूआत रंगभरी एकादशी से ही हो जाती है. काशीवासी अपने ईष्ट भोलेनाथ के साथ महाश्मसान पर चिता भस्म के साथ खेलकर इस पर्व की शुरूआत कर देते हैं.
