This peaceful and soothing melody can be traced way back in time. It was originally written by the great French composer Maurice Ravel, for his work “Pavane pour one infante défunte” (1899).
Much later, we can find this melody again in the 1930s hit “the lamp is low” a song inspired by Ravel’s composition that would become very popular in the US.
Some years later guitarist Laurindo Almeida would record this tune in1969 adding a Brazilian flavour to it and that would be finally the version that Japanese DJ Nujabes would sample for his “Aruarian Dance” written as a soundtrack for the anime “Samurai Champloo” in 2004.
What a journey for this beautiful melody!
