11 States Move To Cut Off
Federal Unemployment Benefits.
11 Republican-led states are making moves to opt out
of federal unemployment programs.
They are Montana, Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho,
Iowa, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota,
South Carolina, Tennessee and Wyoming.
Benefits could end as early as June 12.
The funds offered by the American Rescue
Plan run through September 6. .
This includes the extra $300 in weekly aid that was
being paid out in addition to typical state benefits.
The long-term unemployed, self-employed and gig
workers would lose their benefit entitlements outright. .
The decision to stop unemployment benefits is
likely due to current labor shortages. .
Officials claim these “enhanced benefits”
are keeping people from returning to work and
therefore causing the shortages. .

these claims and argued that businesses
are failing to offer a “decent wage.” .
