State elections in Tamil Nadu will be held early this month April 6. It's the first election without the two titans M Karunanidhi and Jayalalitha - the incumbent chief minister, Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) will be under pressure to establish his position as the rightful heir to the legacy of J Jayalalitha while chief opponent MK Stalin of the (DMK) too will have to establish his position within his family and the party as the rightful heir to the legacy of M Karunanidhi. In conversation with Mitali Mukherjee, MP from Sivaganga and Congress party member Karti Chidambaram said he was confident the Congress would have a much better run in 2021 and win between 20 -22 seats of the 25 they are contesting. In 2011, the Congress was given 63 seats, and it won five while in the subsequent election (2016), the party got 41 seats and emerged victorious in just eight seats.
Karti Chidambaram also said the DMK Alliance was going to sweep the Tamil Nadu elections with between 180 - 200 seats as two factors were playing strongly against the AIADMK - it's ally BJP was dragging the ruling party's prospects and AIADMK's own failure on delivery has caused a strong anti-incumbency wave.
