As many as 16 farmers have died since the beginning of the protests that have erupted against the new farm laws.
On December 14, Makhan Singh, a resident of Moga passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest at the Singhu Border protest site.

The Wire spoke to friends of Makhan who accompanied him in the Delhi Chalo protest and doctors at the protest site who are providing medical aid to the demonstrators, especially the elderly.
