देश में कोरोना की दूसरी लहर के कुछ थमने के बाद अब तीसरी लहर की आशंका बनी हुई है. हाल ही में सामने आए कोरोना के डेल्टा प्लस वैरिएंट ने चिंताएं बढ़ा दी हैं. एक्सपर्ट्स का कहना है कि यदि तीसरी लहर आई तो उसमें डेल्टा प्लस वैरिएंट एक मुख्य कारक के रूप में कार्य कर सकता है. ऐसे में ICMR ने भारत में COVID-19 की तीसरी लहर की संभावना पर एक अध्ययन प्रकाशित किया है. अध्ययन में कहा गया है कि भारत में अगर कोरोना की तीसरी लहर आती है तो यह दूसरी लहर जितनी गंभीर नहीं होगी. हालांकि टीकाकरण के प्रयासों में तेजी से बढ़ोतरी ना सिर्फ कोरोना बल्कि भविष्य में किसी अन्य लहर को कम करने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभा सकती है. अध्ययन में तीसरी लहर की संभावनाओं पर बात करते हुए कहा गया है कि संक्रमण आधारित प्रतिरक्षा क्षमता ये इम्युनिटी कैपेसिटी समय के साथ कम हो सकती है. ऐसे में पहले से संक्रमण की हद में आ चुके लोग एक बार फिर संक्रमित हो सकते हैं.
