The long-delayed monsoon finally arrived in Delhi on July 13 as heavy rain and thunderstorms hit the national capital. The first showers of monsoon caused waterlogging and massive traffic jams in different parts of the city, causing snaking lines of vehicles on several busy road stretches, including at the Dhaula Kuan Ring Road, Barapullah and Kallindi Kunj flyovers. The much-awaited Southwest Monsoon finally brought respite from scorching summer temperatures as 28.1 mm rainfall was recorded between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm. The rainfall started on July 12 night and continued through July 13 morning. Monsoon was set to arrive in the national capital on June 27, but it got delayed by 15 days, the first time in almost two decades. The southwest monsoon's arrival comes after a string of IMD's incorrect predictions. The weather office faced a lot of criticism and called the failure in prediction "rare and uncommon". Finally, the IMD announced the arrival of monsoon on July 13 after rain hit the capital. Monsoon has now covered the entire country, five days behind schedule, IMD said. Watch the video to know more.
