A group of top Senate Democrats
have announced their plan to
propose legislation that would end
the federal ban of marijuana. .
The group is made up of Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York,
Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey and Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon. .

Their draft bill, titled the Cannabis
Administration and Opportunity Act,
would see marijuana removed from the
Controlled Substances Act within
60 days of implementation.
The Controlled Substances Act is a federal drug policy
under which the manufacturing, importation, possession,
use and distribution of certain substances is regulated. .
Under the bill, marijuana would begin being
regulated and taxed, with states allowed
to set their own marijuana laws. .
The group’s proposal calls for the immediate
expunging of nonviolent marijuana-related arrests
and convictions from federal records. .
It would also see new tax revenue go toward
restorative justice programs aimed at helping communities
that have been disproportionally harmed by
“the failed federal prohibition of cannabis.”.
It's as simple as this: Senators Booker,
Schumer and I want to bring common sense to
the federal government, end prohibition and
restore the lives of those hurt most and set

Recreational marijuana is currently legalized in
18 states, the District of Columbia, Guam and the
Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. .
According to a Pew Research poll, 60 percent of Americans
think medical and recreational marijuana should be legalized
