Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) office and residential quarters of at least five forest officers in the park were damaged after floodwater entered the premises following the torrential rain that hit Mumbai early on July 18. SGNP director G Mallikarjun told The Indian Express that there was a sudden swell in the Dahisar river, which starts from the foothills of the SGNP, and five staff quarters were submerged in water. A video of a deer swimming in the flooded streets of Mumbai has gone viral. At least 30 people have died after they got trapped under the rubble of their homes in Mumbai's Chembur and Vikhroli areas following heavy rains that lashed the city and its suburbs. Another video emerged of a landslide from Vikhroli West Parksite near Kailash Complex. Due to heavy rains, several low-lying areas in Kalyan-Dombivli, Ulhasnagar, Bhiwandi, and Ambernath in Maharashtra's Thane district reported waterlogging. As many as 116 tourists, including 78 women and five children, were rescued by police and a team of fire officials after they got stranded at Kharghar Hills in Maharashtra’s Navi Mumbai on July 18. The India Meteorological Department also sounded a ‘red alert’ for Mumbai and other districts in the Konkan region, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in the next 24 hours.
