On August 13, a landslide in Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh blocked the flow of the Chandrabhaga river. It led to the formation of a barrier lake that posed a threat to nearby houses and agricultural fields. Around 2000 people have been evacuated from 13 villages. No fatalities or injuries have been reported so far, reported AFP. The report also stated that 16 people are missing. People were evacuated as a \"preventative measure”, in case there are flash floods, a senior district official told AFP. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur later tweeted to suggest that sections of the river had resumed its flow, bringing down the danger of floods along the riverbank. Lahaul-Spiti district Deputy Commissioner Neeraj Kumar said a portion of a hill overlooking the river caved in at around 9:30 am on August 12. It completely blocked the river. Several landslides have hit the state of Himachal Pradesh over the past few weeks, leading to several deaths. Watch the video to know more.
