The requirement for 51% bumiputra equity in local freight forwarding companies will only enrich an elite group of cronies and the government must find a new solution that favours all races in Malaysia, said Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim.
The Port Dickson MP, said that during his speech on the 12th Malaysia Plan in Parliament on Tuesday, adding that the present requirement of 51% bumiputra equity in local freight forwarding companies is flawed as it prioritises those with political influence.
Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Independent-Muar) also questioned how the new policy would help those who are poor across Malaysia and criticised the policy as populist.
