Some shocking news Wednesday morning as ESPN reports that the New England Patriots are parting ways with star cornerback and former Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore. Gilmore and the Patriots couldn’t agree on a long-term contract and there seemed to be no end in sight . Evan Lazar breaks down why the Patriots decided to move on from their former star.

Gilmore had been on the PUP list with a quad injury he suffered late last season. He was eligible to come off the PUP after week 6.

The Patriots were only about $54,k under the salary cap space before releasing Gilmore but now find themselves with an additional $5.8 million after the recent move.
