One of the Philippine boxing's most respected mentors has heard the final bell of his career. Longtime national team coach Nolito 'boy' Velasco is retiring. The Association of boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) says this will take effect at the end of the year.
In a letter to ABAP, the 59-year-old Velasco says he wants to make up for lost time with his family after years of service. Coach Boy is the elder brother and former coach of Olympic boxing medalists Roel and Mansueto 'onyok' Velasco. He's also part of the Philippine team that won 2 silver medals and a bronze in the Tokyo Olympics this year.
