Almost a year ago, 52 people died in a Gorakhpur hospital. At the time, the hospital was struggling with supplies. Dr Kafeel Khan, who was working through that period said a lack of oxygen at the hospital accelerated the mortality.
Outlook returns to Gorakhpur to speak to patients and doctors to learn if anything has changed since the tragedy. Though the hospital CMO says there are no longer cases of encephalitis, the sickness that killed many patients, resources appear to be stretched thin at the hospital.
