The Jallikattu festival began in Tamil Nadu. The traditional bull taming sport began in the southern state as part of the Pongal festival. Jallikattu competition was held in Avaniapuram, Madurai district amid the rising cases of Covid-19 in the country. As per a Times of India report, nearly 300 bulls were let out into the arena of the bull tamers. As per the new guidelines, only 150 viewers are allowed and occupancy is capped at 50 per cent at the venues. A negative Covid-19 report or vaccination is also mandatory to watch Jallikattu events.
