प्रत्येक माह की चतुर्थी श्रीगणेशजी की पूजा-अर्चना के लिए सर्वश्रेष्ठ मानी जाती है। अपनी संतान की मंगलकामना के लिए महिलाएं माघ मास के कृष्ण पक्ष की चतुर्थी तिथि को व्रत रखती है। इसे संकष्टी चतुर्थी, लंबोदर संकष्टी चतुर्थी,तिलकुटा चौथ एवं माघी चौथ के नाम से जाना जाता है। इस दिन विघ्नहर्ता श्री गणेशजी, चौथ माता व चंद्रदेव की विधिपूर्वक पूजा अर्चना का विधान है। नारद पुराण के अनुसार इस दिन भगवान गजानन की आराधना से सुख-सौभाग्य में वृद्धि तथा घर-परिवार पर आ रही विघ्न-बाधाओं से मुक्ति मिलती है एवं रुके हुए मांगलिक कार्य संपन्न होते हैं। इस तिथि में गणेश जी की पूजा भालचंद्र नाम से भी की जाती है। इस चतुर्थी में चन्द्रमा के दर्शन करने से गणेश जी के दर्शन का पुण्य फल मिलता है। इस दिन स्त्रियां अपने संतान की दीर्घायु और सफलता के लिये व्रत करतीं है एवं कथा सुनती है।
