After much concern about being a policy blindspot, the Prisons Department has announced initiatives to stem rising Covid-19 infections under their watch. They now look to will release early inmates who have been sentenced to less than one-year imprisonment and have less than three months remaining on their sentence. It will also move at least 2,300 inmates of the Dangerous Drugs Act to National Service camps, which have been gazetted as temporary prisons. However, is this all too little too late?
