A committee in Andhra will probe whether the previous TDP government bought Pegasus. The move comes after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was quoted as saying that the NSO Group offered to sell its Pegasus spyware but her government refused. She was quoted by news agency PTI as saying that the previous Andhra Pradesh government under Chandrababu Naidu used Pegasus. While her statement has triggered a political controversy between the ruling YSRCP and the TDP, the question is - can state governments buy Pegasus? TNM’s Paul Oommen explains.
