Hefei was named after the ancient Shi River (now the South Interwestern River), which flowed through the city and merged with the ancient Feishui River (now the East Interwestern River). Hefei County was established in the Qin Dynasty, and from the Sui Dynasty to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was the seat of the Luzhou Prefecture, so it was also known as "Luzhou" and "Luyang", and had the reputation of being "the first county in Jianghuai and Huai, and the key point of Wu and Chu".
