The two Carmen Suites were drawn from the 1875 Opera 'Carmen' composed by Georges Bizet and were compiled by his friend Ernest Guiraud. Interestingly, the musical order of the 2 suites is in reversed chronological order and although the suites are inspired by the Bizet Opera, they do not adhere to the operatic versions entirely.
Les Toréadors (March of the Toreadors) is taken from the theme from prelude to act 1 and Procession of the Toreadors from act 4: "Les voici! voici la quadrille des Toreros!"
