As the centre and state are engaged in bitter war of words, the Supreme Court has scheduled to listen to a bunch of PIL seeking a ban on irrational freebies and poll promises.

The centre has demanded the formation of an 11 member committee to look into and debate and discuss the issue. The Supreme Court had earlier taken a neutral approach on the issue of freebies observing that the government must balance welfare of states and economic strain of the schemes.
