A child has died and more than 40 people were injured when giant hailstones "the size of peaches" battered the Catalan town of La Bisbal d'Empordà on Tuesday. The hailstones were reported to be more than 10 centimetres in diameter. The hailstorm also caused significant damage such as crushed windscreens and broken windows, according to local media. "It was completely sudden and very violent. Significant damage to roofs and vehicles," explained Lluís Ribas. A 20-month-old child has also been killed after being hit by a huge hail stone.
