According to a story mentioned in the Garun Purana, the people who do Pind Daan in Gaya, they attain salvation. According to the legend, Mother Sita, Lord Rama and Lakshmana had done Pind Daan to King Dasharatha of Ayodhya in Gaya.

गरुण पुराण में उल्लेखित एक कथा के अनुसार गया में जिन लोगों का पिंडदान किया जाता है, उन्हें मोक्ष की प्राप्ति होती है. कथा के मुताबिक गया में माता सीता, प्रभु श्री राम और लक्ष्मण ने अयोध्या के राजा दशरथ का पिंडदान किया था.
