Chitragupta Puja or Chitragupta Jayanti is celebrated to worship Lord Chitragupta, who is also known as the ‘Protector of Religion in Heaven’ and is believed to be the one who decides who goes to heaven or hell based on their deeds in this world. The idol of the Lord is worshipped on this day and many offerings are made to him during a puja. He is believed to have been created from Lord Brahma's soul and mind, i.e. Chit.
