"India’s grand old party Congress has got its first Non-Gandhi president in more than 2 decades. Senior leader of the party and Rajya Sabha MP Mallikarjun Kharge defeated his opponent Shashi Tharoor by nearly 7,000 votes in the presidential election.
Mallikarjun Kharge’s nomination received massive support from across the party fronts. Even those who were once the members of G23, supported him. He was even called the unofficial official candidate of the Congress backed by the Gandhis. So, it wasn’t a surprise when Mallikarjun Kharge was declared winner yesterday. However, even though winning the congress president election would’ve been easier for Kharge, running a party will prove to be an uphill task. The chair of Congress president is no bed of roses but an iron throne.
