The Next Series of Pokemon Anime:Pokemon Ultimate Journeys abandons Ash and Pikachu for two new protagonists
The Pokemon Company just announced its next Pokemon animated series, and for the first time in 25 years, the main plot of the anime will be without Ash and Pikachu.
The new series, which launches in 2023 after Pokemon Ultimate Journeys: The Series, will instead star two main characters named Riko and Roy (in the Japanese version). We'll also see three of Paldea's starter Pokemon: Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly.
What does this mean for our former hero, Ash Ketchum? Well, our little boy has just cemented his place as the world's great Pokemon trainer by beating every single one of his opponents in the Pokémon World Coronation Series Masters Eight Tournament.
Pokemon Ultimate Journeys: The Series is coming to an end in Japan with the epilogue of Ash and Go's journey, but we're also set to have a collection of special episodes celebrating the 25th anniversary of Ash and Pikachu's adventures.
According to the official release of Pokemon Ultimate Journeys, these episodes will "provide a glimpse into the possible future" for Ash, but the release also calls this the "final chapter" for Ash and Pikachu. .
For those of us who grew up with Ash and Pikachu, it's sure to be an emotional goodbye, especially with the anniversary farewell planned.
While we don't know what those specials will contain, it looks like we'll be getting cameos from some of the series' most memorable characters - Misty and Brock, Dawn, Serena, Pokemon like Charizard and Greninja and Lucario, and many more. Can't wait to cry over another farewell for Ash and friends in 2023 of our Lord Arceus.
