“We had a very diverse cast and a very diverse crew and team of creatives so we felt very energized by that and very excited by that,” Krysten Ritter told Gayety. “We took every opportunity to flip stereotypes on their head… ‘You know what? Let’s not put women in the kitchen. Let’s put some men in the kitchen.’” Krysten Ritter directs the first four episodes of “The Girl in the Woods” for Crypt TV and Peacock. According to a press release, “monsters are real, kept at bay behind a mysterious door in a cult-like colony. Teenage runaway Carrie’s job is to guard that door, but when strange occurrences begin to shake the sleepy mining town to its core, she must enlist the help of new friends Nolan and Tasha.” Gayety caught up with director and executive producer Ritter about her love for horror, putting LGBTQ+ stories front and center and working with this amazing team. “I think you’ll come for the monsters and stay and love the characters.”
