Indian Army Day celebrates all the contributions of the brave warriors who continue to protect us at the borders. Army Day is observed every year on January 15, commemorating the day Indian Army got its first Commander-in-Chief post-independence. Field Marshal Kodandera M Cariappa, who was a Lieutenant General then, took over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Robert Roy Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India, on January 15, 1949.
