Huge areas of a city centre were turned into lakes as rising water levels engulfed fields gardens and buildings. A racecourse, fields, and major roads have been left under water as heavy rain continued to cause flooding along Britain's longest river. A total of 89 flood warnings are in place across the country as river banks continue to burst causing roads to be closed. Flooding warnings were issues over the weekend for areas of Gloucestershire and Worcestershire as the River Severn burst its banks - with Worcester city centre being hit by some of the worst of the rain. Some car parks and roads in the centre of Worcester have been forced closed due to the flooding. Worcester racecourse has been covered in water, turning the ground into a lake, while fields across the county were covered in deep water. The Environment Agency has said the River Severn in Worcester is due to peak this afternoon or evening (Sun) and will reach between 5.4 and 5.7m. Flood warnings are expected to stay in place over the next few days and people are likely to still be impacted from the water across parts of South England. Pictures of Worcester showed car parks and roads flooded, pipes overflowing and the racecourse covered in water. Due to the worsening situation, the floodgate by the University of Worcester Arena has been shut. No rain is forecast over the South West of England on Monday but temperatures are expected to drop.
