Casemiro will miss Manchester United's next three games after being sent off against Crystal Palace for putting his hands around the throat of an opponent.

The defensive midfielder was dismissed for his actions against Eagles player Will Hughes during a bust-up on the pitch in the 70th minute of the match, after a VAR check by referee Andre Marriner, who viewed the incident on the monitor before sending Casemiro off.

Manchester United held on to take 2-1 victory against the south London side, after finding the game tougher following the Brazilian's sending off.

Despite the suspension, Casemiro will return in time for the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United at the end of the month.

He will miss United's next three matches, including back-to-back games with rivals Leeds, as well as a home clash with Leicester City - which is sandwiched between their Europa League clashes with Barcelona.

The incident started when Palace player Jeffrey Schlupp knocked Casemiro's international team-mate Antony off the pitch, which led to the Brazilian pushing the Ghanaian off the pitch.

A 20-person melee ensued, and once that was finished, VAR official Tony Harrington told the man in the middle that Casemiro's incident required further inspection using the pitchside monitor.

Marriner went to the monitor and agreed with Harrington, before coming back on the pitch to brandish the red card at the midfielder.

As Opta revealed, it was the first time Casemiro had received a straight red card either playing for his former club Real Madrid, or in 30 matches in all competitions for the Red Devils.

The 30-year-old joined Erik ten Hag's Man United in the summer, after a nine-year spell in the Spanish capital.

He has been an important part of the Red Devils side that has made them strong favorites to get back into the all-important Champions League spaces.

Man United was leading 2-0 at the time of the red card incident, following Bruno Fernandes' early penalty, and Marcus Rashford just after the hour mark.

After Casemiro's dismissal, Crystal Palace got a goal back through Ghanaian Jeffrey Schlupp but was unable to find an equalizer, as it finished 2-1 to the hosts. However, it was a rocky finish for ten Hag's side.

Attention for Manchester United now turns to their consecutive Premier League games against Leeds United, which they will have to tackle without the experience of Casemiro in the center of the park.

For the time being, Man United moved third in the Premier League table, above Newcastle, who are involved in Saturday's late kick-off. .
