Two powerful earthquakes struck close to the Turkey-Syria border this week The death toll is expected to reach 20,000 according to the WHO.
The heavily-populated border between Turkey and Syria in the early hours of Monday morning (6 February). Both earthquakes are the worst seen in Turkey since the Erzincan natural disaster in 1939.
Aftershocks and the freezing weather have hampered rescue efforts. It has led to fears that time is now running out for any survivors still trapped under rubble.
