A professional hen do planner claims alcohol-free hen parties are "in" because boozing "isn't fashionable".

Lesley Henderson, 41, spends her days planning and putting together the perfect hen do for brides-to-be.

She claims that bridal parties are turning away from traditional alcohol-fuelled nights out with strippers and pub crawls in favour of "memorable" occasions.

She says a bar crawl is "no longer popular" and brides prefer brunches and roller discos.

Lesley, an event planner, from Edinburgh, Scotland, said: "It is so popular for the younger generation not to drink anymore - it is not fashionable.

"With the bookings, I have had this year it has been a more civilised affair.

"More like roller discos, brunches and even they have been really well behaved.

"Your traditional sort of hen party pub crawl isn't popular anymore, people want to make it more memorable."

Lesley said that the cost-of-living crisis is a factor too - as people don't have hundreds to splash out on a big party.

She said: "People want more value for their money.

"If they are spending £50 per person they want to make it a more memorable experience.

"I think money-saving is a big factor."

Lesley started her own hen do events business in June 2019, having worked in corporate events her whole life.

“I’d wanted to create my own company for ages but knew it needed its own stamp on it,” she said.

“I wanted to offer different hen do parties rather than the traditional pub crawl.”

She offers garden parties, roller disco parties, paint and prosecco and disco brunches for brides-to-be.

“Each hen do is a tailored service,” she said.

“I don’t think people realise how long it can take to set up a garden party.”

The event planner said that disco themes are "in right now".

She said: "People seem to be a lot more self-efficient.

"It was different last year as a lot more people wanted to get back out and socialise again.

"A lot of bookings I have are just me going into apartments to set up the backdrop."
