Frozen vs fresh: We take a look at people’s food shopping habits in Manchester due to the cost of living crisis

Shoppers are switching from fresh produce to frozen food in an attempt to keep prices down amid rising costs, according to data from retailers.

Fraser McKevitt, the head of retail and consumer insight at research firm Kantar UK, told the BBC frozen food was doing “notably better” than fresh in supermarkets.

Frozen chicken, ready meals, pizzas and chips are some of the most popular items as people turn to cheaper alternatives during the cost of living crisis.

Waitrose, M&S and Iceland all told the BBC frozen food is becoming more popular, and Tesco has also noticed an increase in shoppers switching from fresh to frozen.

We spoke to local people to find out if their shopping habits have changed during the cost of living crisis and if they are choosing to buy more frozen food than before.
