Story of Mahamritunjay Mantra:
Lord Shiva blessed his devotee Markandeya, who was supposed to die at the age of sixteen, by appearing before him and stopping his aging process a few days before he was supposed to turn sixteen, with the power of the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra.
This powerful mantra made the god of death unable to harm him, and thus, it is also known as the Markandeya Mantra.
The mantra should ideally be recited 108 times, twice daily, once at dawn and once at dusk.
