The Metropolitan Police are working to identify a Crystal Palace supporter who appeared to direct racist abuse at Tottenham attacker Son Heung-min on Saturday.

The South Korean star was substituted in the 89th minute and exited the pitch via the quickest route possible which saw him have to walk past traveling Palace fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Commonplace hand gestures that greet opposition players at matches were directed towards Son, along with one man who appeared to racially abuse the 30-year-old.

A series of actions saw the supporter pull his eyes sideways, swear at Son, and appear to mock a tourist taking pictures with a camera.

Video footage captured the three-second interaction and efforts are now underway to identify the individual involved.

Tottenham issued a short and powerful statement on Sunday morning damning the alleged racist abuse aimed towards their player.

The statement read: 'We are aware of an allegation of racial abuse towards Heung-Min Son during yesterday’s match.

'Discrimination of any kind is abhorrent and has no place in society, our game, and at our Club.

'We are working with Met Police and Crystal Palace to investigate and identify the individual involved.

'We will do everything in our powers to ensure that if found guilty, the individual will receive the strongest possible action - as was the case earlier this season when Son suffered similar racial abuse at Chelsea,' the club added.

This marks the third time this season that Son has been targeted by racial abuse having encountered similar fallout after games against Chelsea and West Ham.

A Chelsea supporter was given a stadium ban by the club and charged with a racially aggravated public order offense for making a racially aggravated gesture at Son.

Meanwhile, Tottenham also had to carry out similar investigations after their player received racist messages on social media after a 2-0 win over West Ham in February.
