House Speaker Martin Romualdez wants authorities to build a strong case against those behind the alleged onion cartel in the country.
The House Agriculture and Food Committee held nine hearings on the issue.
Marikina Representative Stella Quimbo alleged that a certain Lea Cruz was behind the artificial increase in onion prices through companies involved in all levels of the value chain.
Cruz denied she had a hand in the soaring prices of onion, which went up to ₱700 per kilogram in 2022.
This comes as Agriculture officials look to set a suggested retail price and import onions yet again as prices of the commodity continue to rise.
Currie Cator has the details.
