Philippine residents fear for safety, income loss as volcano rumbles

People living near the foot of the restive Mayon volcano in the central Philippine province of Albay take shelter in evacuation centers as they worry about mounting income losses and health risks. On Thursday, June 9, 2023, a five-step alert system for the volcano was raised from two to three.
