Peru has declared a state of emergency for sixty days in areas around the Ubinas volcano. Ubina lies 746 miles southeast of capital city Lima…and is Peru’s most active volcano. It has been spewing ash and gas since earlier this week, which has traveled up to some 5,500 meters up into the atmosphere. The smoke cloud has traveled over towns that are 10 kilometers away from the volcano. The state of emergency has been called in the area around the volcano. The emergency measures, that has been approved by the country’s cabinet, allows the execution of exceptional, immediate, and necessary measures and actions to reduce the existing risk, as well as response and rehabilitation interventions. Around 2,000 people live in the areas that are predicted to be affected. The zone is part of the "Ring of Fire" along the edges of the Pacific Ocean known for volcanic activity and earthquakes.
