Return of El Niño spells trouble for wildlife in Galapagos Islands

Forecast to be the most intense in decades, the El Niño climate phenomenon is back and is expected to put wildlife on the Galapagos Islands at risk. Bringing with it rising sea temperatures and heavy rains, El Niño could leave marine animals without food and threaten their reproductive success. The phenomenon occurs on average every two to seven years, and episodes typically last nine to 12 months.
