In an exclusive interview, Mr. Sujit Nair engages in a conversation with M. Sreekumar, a senior journalist from Kerala, discussing the recent incident in Kerala where members of the youth wing of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) were booked for allegedly raising anti-Hindu slogans on 25th July 2023. During a march organized by the Youth League in Kanhangad to show solidarity with the victims of violence in Manipur, provocative slogans were reportedly chanted, leading to the registration of cases against around 300 individuals.
The Hosdurg police station filed the cases based on a complaint lodged by the BJP Kanhangad mandalam president. The charges brought against the accused are under Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which pertains to promoting enmity between different groups based on religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and engaging in acts that can disturb harmony.
Youth League State General Secretary, P K Firoz, took action against the worker who raised the provocative slogan, expelling him from the organization. Firoz stated that the expelled worker, Abdul Salam from Kanhangad Municipality, deviated from the prescribed version of slogans provided to the workers during the march, which goes against the ideology of the Youth League.
The BJP criticized both the Youth League and the Muslim League, a prominent ally of the Congress-led UDF opposition in Kerala, holding them responsible for the incident. The BJP alleged that the provocative slogans received support from the CPI(M)-led LDF government and accused the state of being a breeding ground for radicalization.
Amit Malviya, the BJP's National Information & Technology in-charge, expressed his condemnation of the rally and the slogans raised in a tweet, suggesting that such actions wouldn't have occurred without the backing of the Pinarayi Government.
In summary, the interview sheds light on the controversial incident in Kerala, involving the raising of anti-Hindu slogans, and the ensuing responses and actions taken by the concerned parties.
