The Shettleston neighbourhood was evacuated after the discovery of “potentially hazardous material” in a flat.

Police and emergency crews visited the property on Altyre Street with a hazmat unit, and some emergency service staff are now being treated after becoming unwell.

An estimated 60 people spent the night at an emergency rest centre at a nearby swimming pool.

Next, Glasgow City Council has rejected a request from the UK Government to dock a barge to board asylum seekers.

Council leader Susan Aitken said the she had refused permission in a tweet after the Home Office said it was encouraging local authorities to enact the proposal.

And in other news, the US fried chicken giant Popeyes has announced it will be opening its first Scottish location in Glasgow.

The restaurant will open later this year in Barrhead Retail Park, making it their 29th facility in the UK.
