After Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized opposition parties for corruption during his Independence Day speech, the Congress party responded by highlighting irregularities mentioned in Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports. Supriya Shrinate, Congress chairperson for social media and digital platforms, held a press conference listing seven instances where the CAG had identified cost escalation and misuse of public funds. Shrinate also referred to CAG reports about losses incurred due to faulty engine design at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, irregularities in the Ayodhya Development project, and misappropriation of pension funds for the Swachh Bharat Mission. She criticized the media's silence on these matters and emphasized the Prime Minister's lack of response to the CAG revelations.
